Terrorist sect, Boko Haram has released » 21 out of the over 200 Chibok girls it abducted in 2014.
News of the girls release was broken on Thursday, October 13, and has been confirmed by the Presidency.
Here are 10 things you should know about the development:
1. The girls were picked up from the Banki area of Borno state by a military helicopter after being dropped by the terrorists.
2. They were released after successful negotiations between Boko Haram and the Nigerian government.
3. According to presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, the negotiation was brokered by the International Red Cross and the Swiss government.
4. However, the Red Cross has denied participating in the negotiation.
5. Bring Back Our Girls founder, Oby Ezekwesili has said that she can only weep for joy due to the news
6. The girls are believed to have been exchanged for four Boko Haram terrorists.
7. 18 of the girls are reported to be nursing mothers.
8. The girls’ parents haven’t been invited to identify their children.
9. The girls will be received by Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.
10. The government has denied releasing Boko Haram prisoners in exchange for the girls.
