Bayelsa Governor says GEJ’s tenure did not benefit Ijaws

According to The Nation, Dickson said this while speaking to Ijaw leaders and youths during the annual Major Adaka Boroh celeration.
Boroh was the leader of the Ijaw Volunteer Force, an armed militia with members consisting of the Ijaw ethnic group.

He believed that the Ijaws deserved a better lot and therefore, declared independence from Nigeria and announced creation of the Niger Delta Republic on February 23, 1966.
Boro was killed under mysterious circumstances while serving as a Major in the Nigerian Army in 1968.
Speaking further the Bayelsa Governor, said GEJ’s aides failed to bring meaningful development to the state because of their selfish interests.

Disckon said the same thing is playing out currently, as ministers from the state have refused to use the influence to bring development to Bayelsa.
He said “It is true that we are celebrating Boroh, but ask yourself whether you are doing your bit. Boroh came, saw and did his bit and has gone. I and my team have come and we have taken up the battle from where Boroh stopped and we are doing our duties.

“Each of us must examine ourselves and to be frank we have not done very serious examination in this state and in the Ijaw nation. We cannot blame God. God has been very merciful and kind to us particularly of late.”

Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan, who hails from Bayelsa state, served as the President of Nigeria from 2010 to 2015.
